“For Asheville” is part of a special fundraiser series created in partnership with Arts Asheville, with a portion of royalties supporting Hurricane Helene recovery efforts. Multi-time Moment creators and nature lovers galen tipton and Holly Waxwing collaborated to transform session recordings from local musicians alongside field recordings captured throughout the region — a heartfelt tribute to Appalachia’s rich musical heritage.
Traditional bluegrass and Appalachian folk elements — guitars, banjos, fiddles, mandocellos, and lap steels — are woven into a modern sonic tapestry, reshaped into shimmering, effervescent textures. Field recordings stretch from the quiet of nature to the hum of downtown, incorporating everything from functional foley to Theremin recordings sourced from Asheville’s Moogseum. Rootsy drum shuffles evolve into inventive breakbeats, while twelve-bar blues phrases are sliced into tight four-bar pop structures.
Reminiscent of their recent album keepsakeFM, the duo masterfully flips nostalgic source material into bright, bouncy compositions without losing the emotional core.
